Netflix Shadow and Bone review

The new Netflix show “Shadow and Bone” which is based on the books series of the same name, appealed to me in a few ways. This of you who may now me, I cherish things that are of older ages especially things that are medieval, viking, 17th century Europe, cowboy times, steam age, and of course anything steam punk. I love parchment papers, quills, old books, leather bound books, bags , and clothing. Brass items such as looking glass, compass, etc. and my fascination with trees, wood and paper. So a fantasy story about magic , with mythical creatures , taking place in 1800’s Prague , sounded right up my alley.  Let me just say that if you did not like Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia and Hunger Games , this may not be be right show for you. I have to admit this is a little more teen love story that magicall mayhem but I will forgive that. What is a bit unforgiven is the slow pace, and this is a guy who will always give multiple episodes a try. It has that Netflix let’s stare into the night while in silence fillers scenes. Also the plot holes and incongruity can get to you if you like  logic too much , but I also can overcome these things. But the sweet center of the story is a good one. Magical mutant children that is token from the last air bender , and of course the HP vibes are strong. The acting is a little over the top for some, but good enough for a living comic novel. About the 3rd episode you will know , if you are hooked and alas I am. I love the wardrobe, carriages , fine paper, carriages, sail boats, and old six shooters.  If you like fantastic stories with a lot of heart warming moments  and a teen overcoming their place in the world. This may be worth giving a shot, but I so suspect the books may be a better way to start.

Add'ness and lack of reflection

Thinking about it today. I came to realize that my inherent ADDness does not only come genetically passed down. Or created due to my repetitive 20 year work as an IT professional, but it is what creative intellectuals do to cope with the inherent lack of creative challenges. There are those who create and those who consume. I fortunately or unfortunately am the creative type and sometimes my work does provide a challenge that requires my creative thinking, but most often than not it only offers repetitive mundane yaks that must be stamped out. So in the meantime the brain creates problems or attention getters that really do not need attention at all, like keeping up with the news or Facebook. These are subconsciously implanted as tasks to be completed to make the brain perceive that it has more to do than what is really present. Over time this becomes the nor and things like this be one the norm at home too. You try to sit patiently and listen through your Childs story and you catch y

Productive Day

Enjoying a productive day studying business communications and Human Relationship Management. Sat at Scooter's Coffee and really enjoyed the atmospehere, although the lack of the famous Totty coffee. Had a wonderful family lunch with my kids and wife eating Tropical Smoothy Cafe food. Decided to be a good son and water my mother's garden. As I turned on the hose I worried a little about the water consumption regulations, but I was quicly at ease at looking at how long there poor plants had gone without water, and watered away. The ADD'ness of the NET is wearing off more now and learning to read at least 3 pages without checking gmail and facebook!! Reading books is such a cool concept, I am sad that the Internet multitasking overloadingness is slowly training people to consume at max speed and not enjoy content. Less can me much more gratifiying than more.....
